About plant names...

The original range of this grass is not known, but it is found in eastern North America, especially in coastal areas.

Identification: Stems are upright but often prostrate at the base, 1½-3′ (50-100 cm) tall, growing in wet soil or shallow standing water. Grass blades are up to 1′ (30 cm) and 1/16-⅛″ (2-6 mm) wide, rough on the upper surface. Flowering tops, or panicles, are 1¾-6″ (5-15 cm) long, and very dense, a key identifying feature. Each flower contains 4-7 green spikelets ⅛-3/16″ (4-6 mm) long. Coastal mannagrass blooms June through August.
