About plant names...

The genus Eucalyptus was described and named in 1788 by the French botanist l’Héritier. Rainbow eucalpytus is a native of Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and the Phillippines. In North America, it is naturalized only in Hawaii. It is the only eucalyptus found naturally in the northern hemisphere.

Identification: This species of eucalyptus can reach as much as 250′ (76 m) in height. This is the most stunning and unique tree trunk that I have ever seen. The common name "rainbow eucalyptus" comes from its smooth bark, which may be yellow, orange, brown, blue, red, or purple, as well as bright green after peeling. No other tree shows such unique coloration in the trunk. It prefers full sun. It is planted as an ornamental tree, for its dramatic bark, and also forested for timber and ornamental wood.
