About plant names...

This range map is from the Consortium of North American Lichen Herbaria. It is a list of sightings, and it is probably incomplete.

Identification: Poplar sunburst lichen is dark orange, like elegant sunburst lichen, but it grows on tree bark (especially on poplars), appearing on rock only rarely. The fruiting bodies (apothecia) are almost always present, dark orange-red, and are less than ⅛" (3.2 mm) in diameter. The apothecia on elegant sunburst lichen are rarely present. Poplar sunburst lichen can also be confused with pin-cushion sunburst lichen.
