Aureolaria pedicularia (L.) Raf. Fernleaf yellow false foxglove, northern oak-leach
Fernleaf foxglove is a North American native. Fernleaf foxglove is never far from oaks, typically white oaks, the roots of which they parasitize, obtaining some of the water and nutrients they need in this manner. Identification: Plants are 12-48" (30-121 cm) high, usually less than 24" (60 cm). Stems are moderately or densely hairy, and sticky. Leaves are finely dissected, very similar to those of ferns, 1-2" (3-6 cm) long, and opposite. They are medium green or purplish and lanceolate to somewhere between ovate and deltoid. Flowers resemble those of foxglove, like bells or trumpets tipped on their sides, on long straight upward-turned stalks. They are about 1" (3 cm) in size, and yellow, appearing from July to September. Fruits are ⅜-½" (1-1.3 cm) in size. Online References:
